On December 17, 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. Under this law, homeowners may claim a tax credit for the purchase of energy-efficient windows and doors.
To be eligible for the tax credits, windows and doors must achieve:
Windows (Northern Climate Zone): U-factor <= 0.30,
or = 0.31 (SHGC>=0.35), or 0.32 (SHGC>=0.40)
Doors (>1/2 Lite): U-Factor <=0.32 and SHGC <= 0.30
